Let’s Talk About Work

Everyone’s work experience is different, and most people feel like they don’t have the choice but to suffer the reality of the mundanity of work. WE, on the other hand, have an opportunity to affect positive change in our workplace for the betterment of our people, our company’s success, and ultimately our life-long impact! Sound dramatic…? Why don’t we give it a try.

Why Work?
I want to engage with others workers in the country from different industries to get their take on why they work - what are their motivations, their reasonings, their WHY? I’ll be conducting interviews with people each week to get a pulse on the the state of work and how we as a nation feel about it. I’ve come up with a few simple questions to dig into this, and I thought that if I’ll be asking other people to answer these questions, I should be able to answer them as well.
So for the first newsletter in Over Joe’s existence, that’s where we’ll start - a self-interview detailing my thoughts on work. I hope you enjoy.
AI in HR… the fuuuuuuture

Starting Small
What are some small ways we can begin valuing our people TODAY? What can we do to create a boost of morale without having to implement an expensive company-wide HR initiative?
I’ll highlight one broad area, and you can run with this in whatever way you see fit:
Gratitude
Gratitude is impactful for both the giver and the receiver. Gratitude is a practice, not just a state of emotional being. It often times requires intentional action. May I suggest: write a handwritten note to 1 person each week on your team to let them know that you’re grateful for the work they do.
Maybe you send out a google form that allows your people to express gratitude toward their peers. Maybe from that form, you take everyone who received gratitude and put them into a raffle for them to win some prize at the end of the month or the quarter. Then you have a company that is more inclined to show gratitude toward those around them than they were before. Gamify gratitude! Thanks for tuning in…
I desire this to become a modern HR media company that involves a lot of fun and just enough insight to help organizations champion their people. Let me know what else you’d like to see in future editions of Over Joe!
