Walkin’ in Memphis

A pretty vague conference agenda led to nearly 14 hours on our feet on Monday.

Set up a few meetings, made some great connections, but WHEW we tired.

Still, we hit a fire downtown Memphis food joint, Flight.

I am (sometimes) a man of principle, and because my favorite food in the world is chicken and waffles, I had to take a stab at their rendition.

It was without a doubt the most well-prepared plate of chicken & waffles I’ve ever had BUT because it leaned more toward a savory dinner meal as opposed to a good mix of sweet/savory brunchy mix, it now holds the #2 spot on my list of favorite chicken & waffles plates out there.

Okay cool, perfect pivot to my favorite Chicken & Waffles ever.

Chicken & Waffles Power Rankings

1. Table on 6th - Bentonville, AR

“waffled” potato pancake, crispy chicken tenders, maple syrup, house-made spicy thai chili sauce YUM

Elite taste, super fun blend of spicy, sweet, savory with that potato based waffle.

The chicken is so tender, and comes in 4 small strips.

2. Flight - Memphis, TN

Ashley Farms Chicken Breast, Buttermilk Waffle, Vermont Maple Syrup (tbh I don’t remember this bc it didn’t taste all that sweet), Local Mushroom Cream Sauce

CLASSY Chicken n’ Waffles. The chicken was perfectly done, and the mushroom cream sauce was delectable.

The only reason this doesn’t sit atop the list is because I PERSONALLY prefer a more breakfast/brunch style C&W, while this one felt about as dinnery as C&W can be.

3. Dilly Diner - Tulsa, OK

Deep fried chicken breast on a Belgian waffle. Served with black pepper honey butter & sriracha honey

Wow this stuff is good. I was hesitant about the black pepper honey butter only the first time - now I’m asking for extra. YUM.

4. Tally’s - Tulsa, OK

2 Hand-battered chicken tenders served atop a Belgian Waffle dusted with powdered sugar with 2 eggs any style.

Tally’s is CLASSIC diner food, and their chicken & waffles, while it is really tasty, primarily for its VOLUME.

These tenders are BIG, and you get the eggs any style with it - yum. Sometimes I’ll even add some hashbrowns if I’m really feeling myself.

5. Press Waffle - Little Rock, AR

Two deep fried crispy tenders with bacon crumble and maple syrup on top of our golden Leige waffle.

This little guy packed a punch. Truly one of the tastiest waffles I’ve ever had.

The quality of this one surpasses that of Tally’s, BUT you’ll leave Press thinking “I could’ve eaten another one of those.”

I had only seen like 1 Lord of the Rings movie, and now I’m obsessed with all of this.

It’s so magical and fantastical and all the storylines coming together it’s just amazing.

BY THE WAY - I started watching the first season in preparation for the second season launch which I think was yesterday, SO…

I’ll be operating a week behind. Regardless, the show rocks - if you’re looking for something to get into, get into it.
