luuk's weekly update

Sir Judgington, airport beers, cava

BACK IN LOS ANGELES HONEY I’M HOME

Anyway…

on the agenda today:

  • fun (but stinky) fact of the week

  • must listen / watch of the week

  • beer in the airport, bad or good?

  • “new partner” for the business owner’s book club

  • Cava CEO reached out (kinda?)

  • baby playlist (not for babies, just a small playlist)

Fun Fact of the Week

A friend from college (Ph. D guy, now with the Army) is in South Korea and said that North Korea is dropping “poop balloons” on South Korea, and South Korea is actually returning the favor.

High tech balloons filled with cow excrement are raining from the Korea Skies.

Just in case you were wondering what was happening in the Koreas.

MLW of the week (must listen or watch)

Two takeaways:

  1. Jay is a brilliant question-asker. I think part of the reason Jay is so successful is because he brings a level of intelligence + thoughtfulness to his podcasts that his partners/interviewees LOVE.

Like, he’s sitting here asking Zack questions, and Zack can’t help but take a step back to call it out: “Jay you ask some really freaking great questions man.”

He has a way of putting himself in the creator’s shoes despite being a different type of creator.

This interview was compelling bc Jay and Zach are both more business-focused creators than even the creators they serve, so I think they could appreciate the level of business acumen they both brought to the discussion.

EVEN WITH A COOL FILTER, YOU CAN JUST FEEL THE WARMTH OF HIS SMILE AMIRITE

  1. Zack Honarvar is both very cool and a great communicator. I’ve even seen some stuff of his on LI, and this felt like an even more authentic version of him (makes sense, Jay was DEALING thought provocation).

I have a friend who works for Eric (Airrack) and can appreciate the work Zack has done for that channel - high demand, high growth, out of the box, ever-evolving. It takes serious vision to harness a youtube channel like that in the way that team has.

I can also appreciate the healthy relationship he has to money when working with creators - pursuit of money will lead to something empty, but pursuit of a vision of growth and becoming the creator you want to be… That’s worthy.

It’s worthy because you never truly get there - constant growth in the pursuit!

Airport beer

So I don’t like to be the guy who has a drink by himself - it takes away from the communal aspect that I believe to be of utmost importance when enjoying an alcoholic beverage.

Though I will say… I certainly enjoy a beer.

Similar to sipping a coffee in the morning, I think sipping a beer gets some creative juices flowing when I’m trying to get into a productive headspace.

I had wrapped up the workday, and I’d begun a little bit of writing, so I sat down with judge and shared a beer (Modelo Especial) with him (he didn’t want any).

I don’t tend to make the exception for the airport beer, but it felt right on Wednesday.

Does beer taste better at an airport?

BOBC

So we’re making some progress on the Business Owner’s Book Club thanks to a new partner. you can subscribe here (only if you want): https://business-owners-book-club.beehiiv.com/

I say partner, but he really is the brain behind the whole idea.

Enter: Merrick Haigler

With an MBA and MSF from Auburn University (Go Tigers, War Eagle), Merrick has the goods, and he looks GREAT.

here’s proof:

BIG TIME MR. MERRICK HAIGLER - HAS A SMOOTH GOLF SWING

He just adds a level of profesh that we need over here.

Our goal is to build a community of leaders who desire to learn and grow through reading. And to be able to do it quickly ;)

Cava, Cava, Cava (and mini LinkedIn Virality) !

So Brett Shulman commented on my LinkedIn post - Brett is Co-Founder and CEO of Cava.

I’m hoping that here soon we can begin a partnership (one where I get free Cava)

Wanted to use this example as a benefit of mini-virality. 170 likes and 80 comments would classify as a semi-viral LinkedIn post for ME (probably my best “performing).

I’d prefer 5-10 of these to one post that gets 1,000 likes and has 100K impressions.

Why? Because I’m able to engage with everyone who engages with me, and I get introduced to new pockets of people more frequently as opposed to one major exposure.

Also, 5-10 of these would show that I was building consistently good content worth engaging with. Cava 4 lyfe.

Baby Playlist (not for babies):

Again, just a small playlist. Not a playlist for babies. Knock yourselves out with a few of this week’s favorites.

The DIP

vibies - mainly alt-pop, have some fun, go nuts!

I’m a Spotify guy what can I say?

Alas

All we got for this week. More to come as always.

If you enjoyed this - send this newsletter to your friends :)

Cheers to all !
