Indianapolis to Palm Springs
A good work week, a good play weekend
This past week was good, fun stuff.
Hard-nosed run it down your throat type work week in Indianapolis with the Streamline team — slinging book deals left and right (not really, but you never know what might come of it).
Take a load off, stick swinging, sun tannin’, pool side sippin’ something light type of weekend in Palm Springs.
That’s the agenda.
Indy is Back
The Gospel Coalition came to town, and there were some headliners of note for sure: John Piper, Alistair Begg, David Platt to name a few.
We (Streamline Books) have some connections to the guys at TGC, so we get to show face.
Our cofounder Will kept saying something over and over throughout the week that stuck.
Obviously there’s wisdom in the big guys speaking on the big stage, but how many stories and how much wisdom is out in that audience?
So we spent the week chatting with people about their story and how they made it to where they are today - beautiful stuff.
Tuesday night, we got up to no good. Pacers vs. Bucks game 2 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in DT Indy… While my boy Bobby Portis dropped 28, it wasn’t enough for the Pacers (DARK HORSE).

BOOM BABY
When they wanted the air guitar, I was hitting them with the nastiest bass licks you could imagine (idk how to play bass).
Wednesday was a big night for the boss man Willy Severns - turned 33 (Jesus year) and had a big time at Harry & Izzy’s steakhouse, a favorite of the bday boy’s.
Capped it off with some NBA + pints of ice cream.
Rowdy week in Indy to say the least.
Palm Springy
Early flight out of Indy had me in Ontario, CA at around 12:30pm. The stop in Dallas had me walking nearly a mile to get to my gate - insane stuff.
My wife picks me up, and for some reason SHE has the urge to stop by Raising Cane’s, to which I said ummmmmmmmm….. SURE. Get this, we share a Caniac Combo, which I’m used to being around $13.99 — this puppy knocked us $20.80 after tax.
WOW.
Regardless, what are we doing in Palm Springs? But first…
Will y’all let me get emotional for a second?
Grace and I have been blessed by some amazing community through our church in Santa Monica, Vintage Church. About a year and a half ago, we got placed in a small group with a few other couples.
We’d see them once a week, it was great, it felt like maybe we found some good friends, but it was early to tell.
Then, the boys get out there for a round of golf, we have some fun, we get a little more comfortable, things are going great.
Week after week, we get a little closer and closer, and it feels like real community. We’re sharing in joys and struggles (I’ve had a lot of both since moving out here btw).
These guys became my best friends, and we truly found a home here in Los Angeles because of this group.

me, matt, steve, tim
Anyway, literally love these guys and they’ve been SO there for us when things have been difficult. I’ve lost my job twice in two years out here, Grace and I lost our home to the LA wildfires, and they’ve been in our corner.
That was just a little rant about how much I love my friends. I’m getting emotional because Grace and I are moving to Nashville (more on this later) when she graduates law school.
ANYWAYS, PALM SPRINGS

We got a little place near the heart of PS, and the boys played a couple rounds of golf, then we all hung by the pool, got some sun, cooked some food (my friend Matt cooked almost everything, and while he’d tell you he’s in media/advertising/yada yada yada, he’s actually a CHEF).
Every friend group needs a Matt. Not only because he’s just awesome, but also because he loves to chef up for the team.
Overall, really sweet weekend. My buddy Tim and I are pretty close to the same level out on the links, and we went out and had a day on Sunday morning.
Tim shot an 84, I shot an 86, and vibes were HIGH in our cart.
Granted, Steve shot an 80, Matt also shot an 84, but they are actually used to shooting WAY lower. So big win for Tim and me.

Timmy boy almost sunk this puppy
Alas
Big week, that’s all. Love my friends, that’s all.
Also, Writer’s Block is coming soon.
Despite many reasons I could consider things bad, work is good, life is good.
Let me know how you liked my newsletter. Even the emotional part.
